Dyslexia Therapy

How I can help your child?

The greatest gift I can give to your child is belief in him or herself, and self-confidence. Armed with these tools tasks which seemed impossible become less so and self-belief is rewarded with better results.

I ask my children to say the word YES. Generally they start quite quietly but then are encouraged to say it louder as they might do if their favourite team had just won a competition. YES. They feel the ENERGY and the power of positive thinking. This energy is used to help them believe that they can achieve anything if they want it enough.

I use a large number of mnemonics which help the children remember things more easily.

In spelling they help a child retain the correct spelling each time:
Dash In A Rush Really Hurry Or Else Accident
is DIARRHOEA

Never Eat Chips Eat Salad Sandwiches And Remain Young
is NECESSARY

In Science I use it for things like the periodic table:
NAUGHTY ALEX is Sodium
Na Naughty Alex threw the sodium into the bath and it exploded

In French, The word for housework is le ménage
Le MEN take an age to do the housework

The most important ingredient when teaching children with dyslexia is FUN as they find writing a struggle and it is often daunting.

In Geography, learning capital cities can be a nightmare so you look for something which will help you remember it.
The capital of Spain is Madrid. The bulls drive them MAD and they want to get RID of them.
How did I get to the Capital of Venezuela ?? question
I went by car?? CARACAS

Tables can be a nightmare.
This is how you can make learning the 9 x table more interesting.

Place your hands in front of you on a table and spread out your fingers. Imagine you want to know what 5 x 9 is.

On your left hand count 5 from your little finger towards your thumb and you will reach your thumb, now bend it under so that you have 4 digits before the thumb and 5 after. The answer is 45. Also all the answers for the 9 times table add up to 9.

These are just a few of the FUN things which I do to help children up to GCSE remember information for exams; not just remember it for a short while but be able to recall it months later.
